Orientation & Welcome Pack
Go Abroad China is here to make your transition away from home as smooth as possible. GAC’s Welcome Package Includes: a map of the local Beijing area, a smart phone and SIM card (already loaded with credit, 50 RMB), transportation card with credit (100 RMB), pocket-sized “Tips in China”. For those taking the internship in China program, “Internship Advice” will also be shared, Service Components list and other handy information. (an $100 deposit will be needed, which will be given back prior to your departure as smart phone in Welcome Package and all the property in our accommodation if you ordered this service keep well, or will be confiscated accordingly. GAC's onsite staff will provide you with further information)

Arrival & Orientation
Step 1
Immediately when you arrive, there will be a Go Abroad China Beijing (or any other city you chose) program coordinator to meet and welcome you at the airport; be on the look out for somebody holding up a sign that reads “GAC Office”. You will then be taken through an initial orientation process.
This involves sharing with you information about general dos and don’ts in China, we tell you about normal life in China for both Chinese people and foreigners, we introduce our weekend activities that you can take part in if you like, and any other particular things that you need to be aware of etc.
Step 2
Meet your host family or whoever you will be sharing the apartment with. The program coordinator will personally accompany you to your new home, whether you have chosen to live with a Chinese host family, an apartment where you will share with another young flatmate, or a private apartment.
When you get to the apartment, you will be shown how to operate appliances in the home, safe water to drink (remember in China you do not drink water directly from the tap/faucet), how to get to the train or bus station etc.
Step 3
We take you to your internship company for a first meeting. You will meet your new boss and supervisor, learn about the company, discuss your job description, decide on your official start date, and teach you how to take public transportation to your company.
If you have chosen a different program, for example a semester study abroad program, in the same way, your program coordinator will make sure you get settled in your school, accompany you through registration, housing, school map and getting around. Above everything else, you will have your coordinator’s personal phone number for your absolute convenience.
Step 4
Once you are in your new home, your host family will be kind enough to help you get acquainted with your surroundings e.g. small shops around the area you live in, your new community, fruit & vegetable market etc.
From there, you can relax and get ready to officially begin your program and experience China with us!
